The arena
This position is located in Gothenburg, Sweden within the Laboratory Animal Sciences (LAS) department. This group supports all in vivo studies conducted at the Gothenburg site and has active collaborations across the company. With a focus on the 3Rs (refinement, replacement, reduction), LAS scientists conduct studies to evaluate efficacy, confirm target engagement, and assess drug safety.
The role
A Laboratory Animal Veterinarian who will provide veterinary care and contribute expert knowledge in physiology, animal health and technical procedures. Will support the development and refinement of animal models and methods by participating in large multi-disciplinary teams. This role requires participation in audits of external partners and a valid Swedish veterinary license. Scheduled on call duties are included in the role.
Minimum experience
- Veterinary degree
- Swedish veterinary license
- Understanding of Swedish/EU regulatory requirements for in vivo research
- In vivo veterinary skills in rodents, dogs and pigs
- Strong communication skills and fluency in English
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Good networker
- Good knowledge in animal welfare and 3Rs
Preferred experience
- Knowledge of animal models within AstraZeneca’s core therapeutic areas
- Advanced degree (Masters or doctoral level) in addition to a veterinary degree
- Experience in conducting in vivo studies
- Relevant post-graduate laboratory animal qualification (eg Dip ECLAM, ACLAM or CertLAS) or eligible to achieve such qualification
- Experiences to work with transgenic animals, breeding and maintenance
- Skills in surgery, including analgesia and anaesthesia
- Skills in pathology
- Imaging skills
