Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för komparativ medicin
Comparative Medicine has the operational responsibility for the infrastructure supporting all aspects of use and care of laboratory animals. We provide Laboratory Animal Science education and training (LAS E&T) as well as continuous professional development (CPD). We endeavor to incorporate the 3R principle (Reduce, Refine, Replace) in every aspect of Karolinska Institutet's research using experimental animals. Comparative Medicine is responsible for the future development of this infrastructure and have for example developed a concept for next generation of animal facilities (concept facilities). The first facilities based on this concept opened in 2013 and a new, state of the art facility will open in 2018. We also act as a link between Karolinska Institutet and other national and international authorities that regulate how experimental animals should be cared for and used in research.
